The African and Caribbean Council on HIV/AIDS in Ontario (ACCHO) is proud to introduce our new social media campaign, Linking Lives to Care!
Linking Lives to Care is all about helping you understand HIV better.
About
ACCHO’s “Linking Lives to Care” is a social media campaign designed not only to inform but also to engage, inspire, and meet people where they naturally gather. The vision of Linking Lives to Care is to actively engage and empower African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) community members by promoting consistent and impactful messaging and content around HIV.
The campaign will act as a resource hub, connecting community members to services and resources related to HIV prevention, treatment, and care. By sharing knowledge, it aims to empower individuals to overcome barriers.
In this technological era, social media has emerged as the most popular and widely used tool for disseminating information on various topics and services, enabling real-time reach to a broad audience.
These platforms also facilitate data collection to assess reach, engagement, influence, conversion, and traffic, providing a chance to drive behavior change.
This presents an opportunity for ACCHO and our member organizations to leverage these platforms with targeted messages and content to better engage with ACB communities.

Understanding the Situation
Our approaches to addressing challenges are continually evolving, which means the impact of HIV on ACB community members is also constantly shifting. In this context, information sharing is crucial for HIV education to prevent new infections, ensure access to treatment and care, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to make informed health decisions.
ACB community members continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV and, despite constituting only 4.5% of the population, this community bears the weight of 25% of all new HIV infections.
As we recognize the interconnected challenges they face, we introduce the “Linking Lives to Care” campaign – a transformative initiative designed to empower, educate, and elevate the ACB community in the face of HIV.
Making a Difference with Knowledge
We continue to believe in the power of knowledge to make a difference. Linking Lives to Care was created based on its fundamental messages: “Know the facts about HIV and challenge myths & misconceptions” and “Education and awareness are key to ending the HIV epidemic.” This campaign’s potential is vast, and social media was identified as the ideal platform to effectively convey its essence.
What We Want to Do
The broad objective of the campaign is to increase HIV awareness within the ACB community by providing current information relating to HIV prevention, treatment and care, stigma, and testing. It will also further build the capacity of ACB service providers and ASOs around linkage to care and retention in care through a creative and engaging manner.
Specifically, the campaign will set out:
To reduce HIV/AIDS stigma, encourage regular testing, promote prevention strategies like safe injection, condom usage, and PrEP, and build capacity for linking ACB communities to healthcare and support services.
Our Plan
The “Linking Lives to Care” (LLC) campaign focuses on four areas: HIV Prevention, Treatment, and Care; Social Determinants of Health; and Advocacy. Our goal is to provide culturally appropriate information on HIV, address social factors affecting health, and dispel harmful myths, thereby fostering a more informed, supportive, and empowered community.
