HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual for Service Providers working with African and Caribbean Communities in Canada
ACCHO, in partnership with Women's Health in Women's Hands Community Health Centre (WHIWH), has developed the first comprehensive and culturally appropriate HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual: A Tool for Service Providers Serving African and African Caribbean Communities Living in Canada.
ACCHO developed the HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual for service providers and community-based organizations. This resource will support efforts to prevent both primary and secondary transmission of HIV among African and Caribbean communities in Canada.
The HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual demonstrates ACCHO's commitment to help service providers and organizations build their capacity to work with people from Africa and the Caribbean.
The HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual contains contextual information on HIV/AIDS in African and African Caribbean communities in Canada, offers a framework for HIV prevention within these communities, provides information and guidelines for HIV prevention work, and offers recommendations on overcoming barriers to HIV/AIDS prevention among African and African Caribbean people living in Canada.
The HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual is the product of a comprehensive literature review of published and community based resources, consultations with service providers, and advice from a steering committee. The HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual benefited from reviews by over 60 health care professionals, academics and community representatives.
The HIV Prevention Guidelines and Manual complements ACCHO's groundbreaking "Keep it alive" HIV prevention campaign that was launched in June 2006.
